Amy’s Top50 Songs of 2014

5. 소격동 – Sogyeok-dong

YES. This is the first time I do this, but it’s worth it. My #5 song is BOTH versions by IU and Seo Taiji, because both of them go great together… complementing each other and in contrast of one another. Here’s an English translation of the song, and the corresponding Español version.

4. Calle 13 – El Aguante

Well, honestly. This song (and the whole album) just literally sneaked up on me. I never in my life would’ve expected to actually kill the replay button for Calle 13, but I can’t help stopping everything I’m doing to just sing out to El Aguante whenever it’s on. I love its Anthem qualities, the political aspect, and I love that he manages to add that Irish Celtic flare that I have a weakness for. It’s got everything going for it, and very little against it (one may disagree with one or more things he says).

But it still was no match to~~~

3. Waa Wei (魏如萱) – Unlove (愛不愛)

This… simply is a sick ass track that combines everything that’s amazing about folksy pop rock and strong classical influences in a way that it may only be Waa’s music. I wish, so freaking much, that there were a really polish translation of the song, though. I only found this. Though this Zhen Me Zhong Wen Tumblr did a partial translation of the hook: “It’s unclear, it’s not up or down, it’s obscure and something seems to be wrong yet I don’t know what. We are unwittingly in a restless tangle with each other.

Waa really came >this< close to nabbing my #1 spot this year, but her amazing talent was no match for my bias for~~~

No use of Real Estate’s “Had To Hear”? :(

[…] Last year, I fell in love with Carrchy’s (卡奇社) music. And honestly, their 2007 album Daylight Allure (日光倾城) is pretty good stuff [Xiami] [YouTube Sample], but they hadn’t been releasing ANYTHING for many MANY years. Last night, they surprised with the release of the single track Clouds (云, Yun), which you can get in Xiami (Sorry, those who Xiami is blocking). I don’t know anywhere else where you might listen to their music [Here’s some Douban demos]. […]
