Amy’s Top50 Songs of 2014

It’s that time of the year again~

If you missed my 2014 Music Highlights~

As always~ same rules apply. Songs released in 2014 are eligible (usually no new versions or covers), one song per artist… and I’m unsure I’ve done this before, but there’s a one song per album rule too. That made it really difficult because I’ve been listening to a lot of compilations and soundtracks this year. There may be exceptions, songs that were dropped as singles before (and I wasn’t aware of them), but had been released in an studio album this year.

This time around the order of my list turned out to be different than I expected it. Three songs battled it out to my Top-rated-Most-played, but only ONE made it… because I decided to make it cerebral with a Google Sheet mathematical rating. LOL I rated elements such as lyrics, rhythm, melody, instrumentalization and voice. I don’t know if this method worked, but it certainly made making the list a LOT easier than I remember it being.

Biases are always present, as well as new discoveries and old favorites.

This is a list heavy on YouTube/Xiami links. I will try to have (almost complete) playlists for your easy listening pleasure.

No use of Real Estate’s “Had To Hear”? :(

[…] Last year, I fell in love with Carrchy’s (卡奇社) music. And honestly, their 2007 album Daylight Allure (日光倾城) is pretty good stuff [Xiami] [YouTube Sample], but they hadn’t been releasing ANYTHING for many MANY years. Last night, they surprised with the release of the single track Clouds (云, Yun), which you can get in Xiami (Sorry, those who Xiami is blocking). I don’t know anywhere else where you might listen to their music [Here’s some Douban demos]. […]
