TCM Classic Film Festival 2012

Friday’s fares included:

  • Sold out screenings of Cover Girl and Raw Deal
  • A presentation of the first Best Picture winner — Wings with A.C. Lyles and William Wellman Jr.
  • Love Story with a discussion with producer Robert Evans about Paramount’s renaissance in the 1970s
  • Funny Face with director Stanley Donen
  • 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with Kirk Douglas
  • Back to back presentations of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein followed by Young Frankenstein with director Mel Brooks
  • Vertigo with star Kim Novak
  • The aforementioned screening of Chinatown
  • A rare presentation of Saul Bass’s directorial debut, Phase IV, at midnight.

Club TCM events included a discussion about the perfect noir between Eddie Muller and Rose McGowan, the history of the red carpet and the ultimate movie trivia contest. Over at the Avalon Hollywood, guest of honor Kim Novak recored a Q&A with Robert Osborne, which will air on the channel some time before next year’s festival.

Rare Hollywood rain kept festival goers soaked throughout the day, but spirits remained high as love for cinema abounded.
