20 Greatest Love Songs I’ve Ever Heard

18. I’m Ready – Tevin Campbell

Again, this song has sentimental value for me. I was all of seven when I first heard this song and it still resonates with me as one of the most beautiful love songs in the world. Young love is something as universal as love itself and the beauty of it never fades as youth turns to maturity [MV].

17. Why Do Fools Fall In Love – Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers

This is one of the ultimate love songs. The teeny-bopper emotion of 50s doo-wop was filled with the silliness of love, the giddy sweetness of it. It’s a unique question, really: Why do birds sings so gay? And lovers, the way they praise the day, why do they fall in love? It’s one of those fleeting thoughts that passes through your heart when you finally feel as though you’ve found “The One”… at the tender age of 14 – the age at which Lymon was when this song went to #6 on the Billboard Pop Charts.

16. Song To The Siren – Tim Buckley

I came to this song almost by accident. I’d heard it on a commercial, then sung by This Mortal Coil. But the original is what stole my breath away. Tim Buckley’s interpretation of the love that clutches the heart of a wayward sailor in the grips of a Siren’s mating call is simple and enchanting. It’s truly a work of art.

15. Love – Musiq Soulchild

Come on, the song is called Love. I couldn’t imagine a list of love songs without this track included. It’s a testament to the strength of love. More than that, it’s just a beautiful melody wrapped in elegantly straightforward lyrics [MV].

As unexpected as my path was to loving all things weird, more unexpected is my ability to get attention for writing about the stuff.

I dunno about “I’m so in love I could puke songs” – I’m certain that if/when I’m in that specific state of love, my mind is too busy to actually care about music or movies.

But I gotta say… roberta flack and selena *laughs*

I don’t know why I was just reminded of Enchanted and Amy Adams singing “How does she knowwwwwwwwwww you love her~~~” LOL

@amy, HaHa. I don’t know why you’d be reminded of Enchanted.

Anyway, Roberta Flack’s awesome, and that song is just intense O.O.

And Selena, yeah, my childhood. What can I say?

@Camiele, Roberta Flack is ALWAYS intense. I also like Jill Scott :)

I think I was reminded of that Enchanted song because of that happy Disney-Go-Lucky characteristic of Amy Adams that makes me think of Happy Love Song with that song. Everyone dances and everyone is happy, with the old people doing the park dance too… it gives me that feeling of euphoria even though the lyrics have little to do with being in love, and more about questioning if you’ve shown you love that person enough.

And talking about Selena, I think her lyrics translate perfectly for the Latin Pop market haha I like really dramatic lyrics in Spanish that tend to sound kinda cheesy when thought about in English. Like Gianmarco’s Simplemente Spiritual, which is a mix of a love song/sex song. LOL There’s a verse where he goes “The moon of my nights, the sun in the morning, and I live in a sweet poem each time she loves me” xD

@amy, ZOMG THAT’S THE CUTEST SHIT IN THE WORLD… HaHA!

Both the lyrics and the Enchanted moment, just tooooooo sweet for my life! I’m just on a high because my best friend in the universe just got married! Like…WHAT?! So, Valentine’s Day, love songs, marriage. ::sigh::

          I just love love, don’t you…?

DAMN! I left so many songs off. I should’ve shot for 25 songs… but then I’m sure I would’ve left off more songs and it would’ve just become a huge problem. Gah… I hate lists… HaHa.
