20 Greatest Love Songs I’ve Ever Heard

Truth be told, when it comes to love songs, there are so many that have spoken to me over the years, many of them from the same artist. So this is how I’m going to do this. I’m going to try my best to refrain from putting more than two songs from the same artist on this list.

Also, there are loads of love-making songs, but none of those will be on this list. The sex we’ll save for later. There are also even more songs that are about painful love, love that is love in spite of all its ugliness. Again, those are for another list. These are pure, unadulterated, sappy, I’m so in love I could puke songs.

So without further ado, my list of the 20 Greatest Love Songs I’ve Ever Heard.

20. I Can’t Help It – Michael Jackson

Written by Stevie Wonder, this track from Michael’s Off The Wall album is one of those songs with a mellow groove that could equally get you in the mood and proclaim love. It’s a borderline love-making track; however, the lyrics are all about the spiritual journey of falling in love rather than the physical manifestation of love.

19. Dreaming Of You – Selena

This is probably on the list for sentimental reasons – it’s one of the first songs I remember falling in love with as a kid. But there’s no denying its pure romantic inclinations. The lyrics may be sugary sweet, but the emotions are absolutely real. Starting with, “Late at night when all the world is sleeping, I stay up and think of you. And I wish on a start that somewhere you are thinking of me too”, you can’t help but feel the young love pouring from this song so brilliantly wrapped in Selena’s tear-dropped voice [MV].

As unexpected as my path was to loving all things weird, more unexpected is my ability to get attention for writing about the stuff.

I dunno about “I’m so in love I could puke songs” – I’m certain that if/when I’m in that specific state of love, my mind is too busy to actually care about music or movies.

But I gotta say… roberta flack and selena *laughs*

I don’t know why I was just reminded of Enchanted and Amy Adams singing “How does she knowwwwwwwwwww you love her~~~” LOL

@amy, HaHa. I don’t know why you’d be reminded of Enchanted.

Anyway, Roberta Flack’s awesome, and that song is just intense O.O.

And Selena, yeah, my childhood. What can I say?

@Camiele, Roberta Flack is ALWAYS intense. I also like Jill Scott :)

I think I was reminded of that Enchanted song because of that happy Disney-Go-Lucky characteristic of Amy Adams that makes me think of Happy Love Song with that song. Everyone dances and everyone is happy, with the old people doing the park dance too… it gives me that feeling of euphoria even though the lyrics have little to do with being in love, and more about questioning if you’ve shown you love that person enough.

And talking about Selena, I think her lyrics translate perfectly for the Latin Pop market haha I like really dramatic lyrics in Spanish that tend to sound kinda cheesy when thought about in English. Like Gianmarco’s Simplemente Spiritual, which is a mix of a love song/sex song. LOL There’s a verse where he goes “The moon of my nights, the sun in the morning, and I live in a sweet poem each time she loves me” xD

@amy, ZOMG THAT’S THE CUTEST SHIT IN THE WORLD… HaHA!

Both the lyrics and the Enchanted moment, just tooooooo sweet for my life! I’m just on a high because my best friend in the universe just got married! Like…WHAT?! So, Valentine’s Day, love songs, marriage. ::sigh::

          I just love love, don’t you…?

DAMN! I left so many songs off. I should’ve shot for 25 songs… but then I’m sure I would’ve left off more songs and it would’ve just become a huge problem. Gah… I hate lists… HaHa.
