20 Greatest Love Songs I’ve Ever Heard

10. Moody’s Mood For Love – King Pleasure

It’s a standard loosely based on I’m In The Mood for Love. However, King Pleasure’s original cut is truly genius. Flipping through the crazy craze of love, the ups and downs of emotions and delirious thoughts that wind themselves up in your mind the moment you feel yourself falling in love, King Pleasure proclaims to the heavens, Now am I insane, or do I really see Heaven in your eyes? Bright as stars that shine up above you in the clear blue skies [1].

9. Hey Mann – Lizz Wright

This song has an ache and a need in it that I just can’t get out of my head. Lizz Wright’s version of Sweet Honey in the Rock’s Hey Mann has all the imagery of finally allowing love to take control: I’ve lost the battle and I’m quite well pleased.

8. Come Back As A Flower – Syreeta Wright

Another Stevie Wonder penned masterpiece, Come Back As A Flower is a track that’s all about the desire to be open and in love as a blooming flower that takes in the first drops of dew. The flower is the universal sign of sentimentality that we humans bestow upon another. This track explores that idea and gives it a soft, lovely voice to wrap it in [1].

7. Lover, You Should’ve Come Over – Jeff Buckley

Jeff was pure and unadulterated emotion. When he wrote about love, it was from a place of honesty that you couldn’t match. Instead of penning a pretty little love song, he composed a symphonic epic of love proportions, giving texture, weight, and elegance to something that can, at times, be fleeting.

6. Golden Lady – Stevie Wonder

Anything that I’ve ever learned about love I’ve learned from Stevie Wonder. His lyricism is intricate, yet incredibly simple. One can never accuse Stevie of leaving the listener confused. His words are always honest and laced with romance, and Golden Lady is no exception. On an album that was tinged with political and personal strife, this track stood out as an eloquent piece of romanticism [1].

As unexpected as my path was to loving all things weird, more unexpected is my ability to get attention for writing about the stuff.

I dunno about “I’m so in love I could puke songs” – I’m certain that if/when I’m in that specific state of love, my mind is too busy to actually care about music or movies.

But I gotta say… roberta flack and selena *laughs*

I don’t know why I was just reminded of Enchanted and Amy Adams singing “How does she knowwwwwwwwwww you love her~~~” LOL

@amy, HaHa. I don’t know why you’d be reminded of Enchanted.

Anyway, Roberta Flack’s awesome, and that song is just intense O.O.

And Selena, yeah, my childhood. What can I say?

@Camiele, Roberta Flack is ALWAYS intense. I also like Jill Scott :)

I think I was reminded of that Enchanted song because of that happy Disney-Go-Lucky characteristic of Amy Adams that makes me think of Happy Love Song with that song. Everyone dances and everyone is happy, with the old people doing the park dance too… it gives me that feeling of euphoria even though the lyrics have little to do with being in love, and more about questioning if you’ve shown you love that person enough.

And talking about Selena, I think her lyrics translate perfectly for the Latin Pop market haha I like really dramatic lyrics in Spanish that tend to sound kinda cheesy when thought about in English. Like Gianmarco’s Simplemente Spiritual, which is a mix of a love song/sex song. LOL There’s a verse where he goes “The moon of my nights, the sun in the morning, and I live in a sweet poem each time she loves me” xD

@amy, ZOMG THAT’S THE CUTEST SHIT IN THE WORLD… HaHA!

Both the lyrics and the Enchanted moment, just tooooooo sweet for my life! I’m just on a high because my best friend in the universe just got married! Like…WHAT?! So, Valentine’s Day, love songs, marriage. ::sigh::

          I just love love, don’t you…?

DAMN! I left so many songs off. I should’ve shot for 25 songs… but then I’m sure I would’ve left off more songs and it would’ve just become a huge problem. Gah… I hate lists… HaHa.
