Top 5 Disney Villains of my 90’s
3. JUDGE CLAUDE FROLLO (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
When I first realized this was getting made, I was like “What? But that book is so depressing!”. My silly young mind couldn’t realize that even after watching The Lion King, Disney could adapt whatever the hell they wanted. And while the plot was changed to make it more palatable for kids, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is still one of Disney’s darkest movies.
And the reason why was its villain: Judge Claude Frollo. He wasn’t even that evil (or old) in the book! And he was the most sexual of them all. Curiously (or not), he was the most religious too. Frollo’s villain song made me uncomfortable, but it was quite awesome in its evilness. “Destroy Esmeralda and let her taste the fires of hell, or else let her be mine and mine alone.” Poor Esmeralda!
