The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Doctors of Future Past

THURSDAY

Happy Birthday, Paul McGann! I’m glad the Doctor Who‘s mini episode “The Night of the Doctor” was about you~

And, as it is expected, said mini episode sprung lots of articles, including ones about their thoughts about it, image breakdowns, and the confirmation of John Hurt’s character name… he’s the War Doctor! Of course, Troll King Moffat has to talk about how he kept it a secret and how Paul was happy to return to the role!

I thought… Why don’t we get Paul McGann in and regenerate him into John Hurt? I’d like to see that! I’d love to see that! And we had this possibility that we could do it as a surprise, so we got in touch with Paul who was dead keen and I’m delighted to say he was so happy to join in with the idea of keeping it secret. He was childishly excited about it!

We also had the trailer of An Adventure in Space and Time, a BBC special drama that tell us how Doctor Who was first brought to the screen on 1963.

Back to Thor: The Dark World, here are the highlights of the lenghty and spoilery Empire podcast with Tom Hiddleston, Kevin Feige And Alan Taylor. Yeah, they had spoiled the ending of the movie on their own magazine and most didn’t notice. Also, we were promised once more that we will get Tom Hiddleston dressed as Captain America in the Blu-Ray! As well as a scene between Malekith and Odin that was cut from the film.

Talking about that movie, here’s the preview of the pretty Thor: The Dark World art book, where we can see early design of most of the main characters. Also, it’s been brought to my attention that The Vanir are Asians. Huh, neither the mythology nor the comicbooks told me that!

Continuing with the Marvel theme, here’s the preview of Young Avengers #12! And for something different, new pictures of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug from Emileeid and Entertainment Weekly!

FRIDAY

We are aware that Fox may be doing a third Wolverine solo movie, and they want to bring James Mangold back for it. But what does Hugh Jackman say about this possibility?

I love the character, he’s kind of like a best friend to me, and I don’t ever want to take [him] or the fans for granted. … I think we’ve got a great opportunity to make something really cool, but it has to be great. That’s what we’re all working toward.

Those who have seen Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. now about Agent Coulson apparently going to Tahiti to recover from Loki “killing him”. If this is the actual Tahiti or a metaphorical one, we are not sure. Curiously, Odin may have also gone there, according to Anthony Hopkins.

I’m not sure. He hasn’t physically died on screen, but I played him as a man who’s on his way out. I think they would have to explain in Thor 3, if there is one, what happens to Odin. Or maybe it’ll just be a story line, maybe he went to Tahiti or something for a holiday. I don’t know.

Is Tahiti a code name for “place people “killed” by Loki go”. Or maybe Tony watches Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Either case, Tahiti is a magical place, indeed. Of course, there are some of us who think Odin just went into a convenient Odinsleep, considering how tired the look after the attack on Asgard.

Here’s a sneak peek of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, courtesy of Entertaiment Weekly! Here’s Peter Jackson singing his praises to Howard Shore.

Howard Shore – what can I say? His music soars and enriches way beyond its connection to our images. He truly has created an epic musical world of his own. A unique sound like no other. A year from now, we will be able to listen to well over 20 hours of musical story telling, that starts with An Unexpected Journey, and concludes with The Return of the King.  That is Howard’s genius – he is carefully shaping this 6 part epic score as a fully unified narrative. This is the second chapter.

Let’s finish with a weird/interesting article about Chinese fangirls fascination with Benedict Cumberbatch and Sherlock, and how they are more hardcore than us puny western fangirls because we don’t risk jail when we write slash fiction. Also, Benedict’s Chinese fandom name is “Curly Fu”… and Watson is “Peanut”. The more you know!

And that it’s for the week. Before I go, here is a video of a pair of legs engineered to defy the laws of physics, and a mind-set to master the most epic of splits… that has Enya on the soundtrack.

  1. Yeah, I like them giving a try with Kamala Khan as Miss Marvel, but I want to actually read her stories first before joining the hype machine.
