The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Doctors of Future Past

TUESDAY

The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special has many new stills and promo pictures! And yep, they do the trick. I want to watch this episode now!

We have mentioned that Marvel has a new Miss Marvel now, and she is a Muslim girl; but what does that mean for Muslims in comics? Not much, since she will be just beginning. We’ll see if the character manages to be relevant, but these Muslim comicbook fans are sceptic:

Any Muslim superheroes I’ve seen introduced goes through the same cycle: introduced; heavily featured in one book; book either gets cancelled or wraps up; character fades into the background; and is rarely, if ever, heard from or featured again. This also goes for most minority characters. I think Luke Cage, Black Panther, Cyborg, and John Stewart are the only ones who have bucked this trend and even they don’t get as much attention as your Iron Man, Captain America, Batman, Superman, etc.

One more hopeful news, the new projects with Marvel and Netflix are starting to take shape! Drew Goddard will probably write the Daredevil series. Dude has nice credentials being the director and co-writer of Cabin in the Woods! And also collaborated before with Joss Whedon in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. On the other hand, we have Melissa Rosenberg as possible writer and executive producer of the Jessica Jones series. I am not as happy with this choice, since she is the Twilight scriptwriter… but then again the source material was terrible to begin with.

Some release date changes from Fox! The Fantastic Four reboot will now premiere on June 19, 2015, which used to be Assassin’s Creed‘s release date. Now the Michael Fassbender movie based on a videogame will premiere on August 7, 2015

Well, that was quite a short retirement! Even shorter than the last one! According to Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki, Hayao Miyazaki is now drawing a Samurai manga, but he can’t say more else Mr. Miyazaki will get angry~

I think he will serialise a manga. From the beginning, he likes drawing about his favourite things. That’s his stress relief. […] He’ll get angry if I talk too much. Let’s stop talking about this.

WEDNESDAY

Let’s talk about the new Marvel Studios logo, which surprised me and made me grin when I saw it at Thor: The Dark World~

We designed the very first Marvel logo for the first Spider-Man film. We’ve used that logo for eleven years, and with Thor: The Dark World, it felt like a good time to update it because this is the very first film that only has the Marvel logo in front of it. You look back at the other films, and they’ve also featured our studio partners’ or distribution partners’ logos. But now that we are our own entity within the Walt Disney Company, it is only the Marvel logo in front of the movies. So that felt like the time to update it and have something that is more substantial as a standalone logo in front of our features.

Kevin Feige also talked about the slow trip of Marvel movies we will get until we have Thanos. I mean, we have to find more Infinity Stones first! Also, he reveals we’ll probably see another one on Guardians of the Galaxy:

[…] I think that’s the first time that we reveal that The Tesseract is an infinity stone, that the aether is an infinity stone. You may see another infinity stone in Guardians and certainly fans of the comics know what one can do with all of those stones if, god forbid, they get them and with Thanos showing up at the end of The Avengers, he plays a part in Guardians and leads us towards at least one potential future.

We have also a bunch of potential spoilers about the Superman/Batman film… which rumor has it that will feature Wonder Woman, Nightwing and recently The Flash… is this movie a Justice League light or something? Since rumors also say we won’t see them in their costumes but in their everyday personas. Anyway, the rumors are mostly about Lex Luthor and how he will fit in the movie, him being “the pride of Metropolis” and not liking Superman at all. It is an interesting read since this Lex is compared to All-Star Superman‘s version and I like that one.

So, The United States Postal Service is now selling Harry Potter stamps because why not! Yay! Warner Bros. sure must be happy for Harry Potter is the cash cow that keeps giving~ They are 20 stamps and they include many characters, including Voldemort! Now you can too lick the back of The Dark Lord!

Cabin Pressure is coming to an end! Yes, my beloved radio sitcom with Benedict Cumberbatch, Roger Allam and Stephanie Cole, will have a final special in 2014. Writer John Finnemore (who also voice acts on the show) confirmed it on his blog:

This is it officially: I am currently writing the next – and final – episode of Cabin Pressure. It will be a forty-five minute special, and it will be recorded early in the new year.

I am giddy for this new episode… but I am sad it will end.

  1. Yeah, I like them giving a try with Kamala Khan as Miss Marvel, but I want to actually read her stories first before joining the hype machine.
