Amy’s 2012-2013 Music Highlights
2. Deserts Chang (張懸) – Games We Play (神的遊戲)
Along with Sodagreen’s vocalist Qing, Deserts Chang (or Zhang Xuan, if you prefer) is one of the better lyricist in contemporary music in Mandarin, which you would have to agree is an enormous achievement.
In her album, Games We Play (which in reality should be God’s Games), she has a lot of the haunting qualities that permeated Faye Wong’s later more religious-inspired days. Of course, less pop and eclectronic, and a lot more Taiwan folksy pop rock.
Her music, of course, doesn’t get often translated. However, I did find translations for track1 Rose-Colored You (玫瑰色的你) [MV][1], track5 Through Our Lives (如何) [1], and track8 You Were Here With Me (我想你要走了) [1].
You can get the album on iTunes.
1. Kishi Bashi – 151a
And this is one of them rewards people that are very late get. This definitely wouldn’t have made it to my 2012 list, nor when I had decided to do a reduc in 2013. This is one of them rare occasions when Amazon recommendations were… right. This has been my last physical music buy.
You can purchase (and stream or buy a physical version of) Kishi Bashi’s 151a on Bandcamp or do your thing with iTunes.
