The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Playing games with my heart

SUNDAY

Benedict Cumberbatch is still trying to look less and less dorky as Richard III in The Hollow Crown‘s new series. Does he succeed? You be the judge. Also, he seems to be at the Battle of Bosworth. You know, the one where Richard III had the whole “A horse, my kingdom for a horse!” line in the Shakespeare play.

It seems series based on movies is the new fad now! The Mortal Instruments didn’t had a great time at the box office, but no problem for those fans it still has. It seems it will get turned into a TV series! Constantin Film, the production company who has the rights has hired Ed Decter (of Helix fame) to be the showrunner. Constantin film and TV head Martin Moszkowicz had this to say:

It actually makes sense to do (the novels) as a TV series, There was so much from the book that we had to leave out of the Mortal Instruments film. In the series we’ll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth.

Not content with that, Constantin Film also revealed that after the next Resident Evil movie, they are planning to put out a TV spin-off. Another one who’s having the film and spin-off TV series treatment is the Underworld franchise! Or so they announced at NYCC.

Talking about NYCC, here are the most important news about Sleepy Hollow announced at their panel: Ichabod will discover yoga and karaoke.

On not so great news, the rumors are true, Marvel is indeed cancelling the apocalypse Fantastic Four! Yep, Marvel’s first family will come to an end with issue #642. At least “for a while”.

That aside, Marvel did win the NYCC for the sheer number of female-lead and female-written comics it will shell out in the comming months. Besides the ones already mentioned, we have a Black Widow Young Adult novel written by Margaret Stohl (part of the duo who wrote Beautiful Creatures), then Peggy Carter (and Howard Stark and alien hunter Woodrow McCord) will have Operation S.I.N., a five-issue miniseries written by Kathryn Immonen and drawn by Rich Ellis. Also, Nicole Perlman (who co-wrote the script of Guardians of the Galaxy) will had her comic-book debut writing the solo adventures of Gamora. Finally, G. Willow Wilson (who writes the awesome Ms. Marvel) will write a 4-part story arc in (the current female-lead) X-Men, titled “The Burning World”. I am smiling so much, my cheeks hurt!

MONDAY

The Walking Dead fifth season premiered on Sunday, and by Monday we had the rating data. And it was freaking great. It had an even better rating than the fourth season premiere. And had better rating that Agents of S.H.I.E.LD., Gotham or The Flash.

Talking about Gotham, Fox gave the series a full season order! Yep, now it has an additional six episodes for a grand total of 22! Congrats to all the cast and crew.

Variety dropped a bomb. According to their sources, Marvel will turn Captain America 3 into Civil War, and RDJ is on the brink of signing up for that movie. To what I said, said what? But the Russo Brothers told us Captain America 3 was about being up all night to get Bucky! Which makes me think, what the hell happens in Avengers: Age of Ultron for Tony Stark to support the Superhero Registration Act! Which in turn could be Tony Stark will end up a sort of villain by the end of the movie. And could this be why it’s been rumored that Sony could lend Spider-Man to Marvel (or maybe both studios co-producing)?

And finally, there’s something that gives some credence to the story, and that is Marvel rebooting the Civil War storyline in the comics (or something). Which I guess could be a way to make new readers be familiar with the storyline before the movie. As you can see in the image, Iron Man and Captain America are fighting over poor Spider-Man wearing the “Iron Spider” costume. And, considering it will run in Summer 2015, it would mean it will run alongside Secret Wars, right? Dammit, Marvel. What are you doing?
