Who Needs “Friends”?

While the rumors of a reunion began after the success of the first Sex and the City film, it turned out to be nothing but false rumors. But I’m sure there’s still plenty of nostalgic fans who wouldn’t mind the reunion of the six cast members in a film. A movie version of Friends could be very profitable, given how many people tend to be nostalgic with their film and television viewings. However, I’d rather see this reunion happening on premium cable, especially on Showtime where it already teased the idea.

Showtime currently has Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow on their payroll, as LeBlanc is set for a second season of Episodes and Kudrow is working on a second season of Web Therapy. That’s 1/3 of the battle won right there. The next step would be recruiting Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston.

Cox is starring in ABC’s Cougar Town, which got picked up for a fourth season on TBS. David Schwimmer will be promoting the third Madagascar film next month while working on The Iceman (with James Franco, Chris Evans and Winona Ryder). Matthew Perry has guested on The Good Wife (CBS) twice, working on a new comedy show for NBC, and is working on a film titled The Whole Banana. Jennifer Aniston has two films set for release next year, Switch (with Dennis Quaid, Ty Burrell, Mos Def and John Hawkes) and Miss You Already (with Toni Collette).

Which means they’re definitely busy right now, especially Perry and Aniston, given that the former is working on a new show and the latter is still the most active worker despite the quality of some of her post-Friends stuff (though I liked her in Horrible Bosses last year).

My suggestion for NBC as the “network” was officially destroyed with the third episode. Oh well, should have seen it coming considering who owns Showtime and something that was said during the Season 2 premiere.

    But speculating is fun. :)
