Who Needs “Friends”?

In order for this reunion to happen, we would need a fourth season of Episodes. I’m sure that Matt LeBlanc’s Golden Globe victory earlier this year could buy the show a couple of years on the air. But with Season 2 tackling the production of Pucks! and forcing Matt, Sean (Stephen Mangan) and Beverly (Tamsin Greig) to work together despite Matt’s one-afternoon-stand with Beverly near the end of Episodes‘s first season, it would require a fourth season not only to not make it feel rushed, but because 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of Friends‘ first season.

The big problem with streching Episodes would be the logic-defying idea of Sean and Beverly still staying in LA — a third season would be understandable, but a fourth would be pushing it unless time passes by slowly and/or the relationship between the three main characters improves. The last thing Showtime needs is turning Episodes into something that lived longer than it should, a la Weeds or Entourage.

That said, I’d like to propose a way to set up the Friends reunion on Episodes in the future.

My suggestion for NBC as the “network” was officially destroyed with the third episode. Oh well, should have seen it coming considering who owns Showtime and something that was said during the Season 2 premiere.

    But speculating is fun. :)
