Hawaa Hawaai Trailer with English Subtitles

Well, not for nothing is India the biggest movie producing country in the world.

Writer and director Amole Gupte of Taare Zameen Par uncredited fame has a new movie coming out titled Hawaa Hawaai, for which I wouldn’t necessarily be interested in if it weren’t for its… Bollywood film trivia title.

Though rumors that Sridevi -famous for her Hawa Hawai number [1] in Mr. India– might make a special appearance has been denied, it still makes me wonder the reason of the title within the context of the story, which seems to follow a group of street kids with a fascination for skate roller blades. When they can’t afford a pair, they set out to build their own setting in motion your sports underdog story featuring children.

I wasn’t much of a fan of Taare Zameen Par for the same reasons I didn’t like Beasts of the Southern Wild, and Hawaa Hawaai gave me serious Kai Po Che! and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag vibes. I just hope it’s not as manipulative with its feelings, considering the film relies on a bunch of children acting.

Hawaa Hawaai is set to open on May 9th in India and across desi-friendly cities.
