The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Foregone Conclusions

Greetings, fellow fangirls and fanboys! This week we have news on two unfinished cartoons that might give us some sense of completion! There are also casting news and TV series news! Here’s how the week started:

SATURDAY

Welp, Warcraft may not get a lot of money in the US of A, but it has totally destroyed the box office in China! It has earned $145 million over its first four days in theatrical release! Let us compare it to my beloved Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which earned $125 million in China… during its whole theatrical run. So yep. Holy sh*t!

SUNDAY

The Conjuring 2 won the weekend North American box office with $40.3 million., surprising no one really. As we all suspected, Warcraft didn’t come close to matching its China numbers, and got second place with just over $24 million for the weekend, even lower from earlier projections of $25-30 million.

MONDAY

Is this the real life? Or is this fantasy? Soraya will make a comeback thanks to Orange Is The New Black. Yep, Itatí Cantoral, known from her iconic (and memetic) role in Mexican telenovela María La Del Barrio, will make a special appearance for a Orange Is The New Black Season 4 promo. Here’s what she had to say

It’s incredible! Because they are going to put the most important Mexican villain, Soraya, in jail. They are going to adapt the role to the series tone and will make her a murderer. […] I am very grateful for this character because it allows newer generations to know who I am thanks to this social media boom, and I’ve been receiving many job offers because of it.

Let’s check out make the scene that make her internet famous!

So, once upon a time there was this cool cartoon called Hey Arnold!, which had an unresolved cliffhanger ending. We were supposed to get a movie called Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie, but the show was cancelled and the movie was no more. That was back in 2004. Now in 2016, we get official confirmation that Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie lives again. Of course, it may not be exactly the same as it was planned. But it’s a conclusion! And we got a lot of returning voice actors! 19 for now, to be exact. The movie will debut in 2017.

Here’s the first look at Pixar’s new short, Piper. And it is damn adorable OMG! The six-minute short will debut before Finding Dory.

Mads Mikkelsen has been talking about the two high-profile Disney films he’s currently part of. First, he tells us not to fret about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s reshoots since “all the big films I have done always have reshoots, it is part of their budget”He also said that Doctor Strange will have “all the good ingredients you get in a Marvel film, but it will have a different flavour”.

So the E3, the annual video game conference and show at the Los Angeles Convention Center, was this week. I am not much of a gamer outside of Facebook and mobile games, but I do love those trailers! Here’s my favourite one of South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Get it? It is also riddled with references to superhero movies (and J.J. Abrams). In the game, Cartman is determined to turn Coon and Friends into the biggest superhero franchise of all time. South Park: The Fractured But Whole will be available will be available on numerous gaming platforms December 6, 2016.
