The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Done in 60 seconds

Greetings, my fellow geeks. This week we still have Star Wars related news, as well as the other franchises I care about. But most importantly, Hiddles continues his love affair with Empire Magazine and also encourages new filmmakers. Without further ado, this is how the week started.

SATURDAY

It was a lazy weekend, for sure. But I still managed to stumble upon some things. Like Chris Rock’s very important annoucement for undecided voters of the Caucasian variety in the upcoming US Presidential Elections on Jimmy Kimmel’s show. Chris tells us to vote for Barry Obama!

And because my love infographics knows no bounds, here’s one courtesy of Empire Magazine that shows us who owns what in terms of film franchises.

But the coolest thing of the day? IMDb’s Top 250 movies in 2 and a half minutes! Man, I even love the background music! Have you seen them all?

SUNDAY

Still not any news, but we still have some Disney/Star Wars reactions, this time coming from fans with big names: J.J. Abrams, Jon Favreau, Robert Rodriguez and Kevin Smith seem mostly happy and excited about it.

So, for those of you eager to know what’s going on with The Muppets sequel, Collider has graciously made a recap of all the info they have. Sadly, Jason Segel won’t be in it, and for some reason Christoph Waltz will play an Interpol agent. Well, I guess if he has to be in a Muppet movie, it would be with a character like that~

At the end of the day, I saw there were four VFX breakdown features, which I love, for Dredd, a movie I feel should have gotten more attention than it did. Here’s my favourite one because I love slo-mo:

I have ADD, so the moment the shot switches, I can’t remember what I was watching a second ago. xD Oh, wait. Maybe it’s because I have Dory’s fish memory.

And I’m happy for Kenshin, and freaking Peruvian/Latin American distributors… you’re missing a hit here. But DON’T market it as an anime movie, just as an action film.

And Alexa Vega has changed… quite a bit. I’ve seen her grown up before, she’s just been Machete-fied. xD I think.

And… DUDE. Jurassic Park~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I’m game for it. Always game for Jurassic Park. xD

@amy, LOL yeah, about Rurouni Kenshin, they shouldn’t market it as an anime movie, fans will already know it’s based on the anime, and they don’t want to alienate non-otaku fans~
Damn, Jurassic Park. My face was all :D when I saw the trailer

  2. All I’m hoping for is that the new Star Wars movies have a sense of adventure.

Now Alexa Vega makes me feel old. Although I can sort of tell it’s her from the face.

I don’t think I’ve told you how awesome this weekly feature is, Mirella. It’s especially great to have a fandom update if work/family/sudden other flashy fandoms take my attention away. This week I’ve been totally distracted by Noirvember and becoming suddenly addicted to the modern Pride and Prejudice webseries “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries.” I kind of mainlined the later all Wednesday. With breaks. /random

@Diandra Rodriguez, first of all, thanks! second, modern Pride and Prejudice webseries? I want!

      • @mirella, it all starts with episode 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KisuGP2lcPs&feature=plcp) and it’s around 4 hours more of episodes until the latest. I can’t wait until the newest installment on Monday! There are a few spin-off things I sort of check on but I stop myself because I need to get other things done. I think the most brilliant thing they’ve done (besides knowing how to incorporate the presence of the web videos into later parts of the story) is how they made Lizzie’s best friend Charlotte into an active character. She gets kind of a raw deal in the book and other adaptations (especially Pride and Prejudice and Zombies).

Okay, so my heart weeps I didn’t comment on this first as usual. Life has been handing me slices of failure pie for some time now, so I haven’t been keeping up with your fangirliness as I should.

But, ohmygodsun! I think I can be slightly excited about this Oldboy remake. Practically all God’s kids know that Oldboy is one of my favourite films of all time. But Spike is also noe of my favourite directors. I should give it more faith than I have… though I guess that’s the true fangirl in me, but I’ve also seen too many remakes make a frace of the original, so I think I’m right in my need to be skeptical of the whole thing.

Meanwhile… DREDD!!! And meanwhile… again… KENSHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m soooo mad that I won’t be able to see this unless they release it on Netflix! To see this in a cinema would’ve made my LIFE! And probably would’ve been one of two films I saw this year… HaHa.

Anyway, I’ve failed again in my aim to be more steadfast in my blogging-ness. Perhaps this is something I’ll start in December…? We’ll see. I won’t be able to come anywhere NEAR your fantstic fangirliness, but I’ll give it the old Harvard try ^-^
