The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: All aboard The Doctor’s Magic Caravan!

Greetings, fellow geeks! While there is much news about our favourite movies, comics and celebrities, the highlight of the week is that Doctor Who‘s back! Yes, Series 7 premieres very soon and there’s stuff surrounding The Doctor and his companions aplenty! So come along and enjoy the ride!

SATURDAY

Let’s start with a question so important to some geeks, people have waged wars about it: “Star Wars or Star Trek?” Now it’s time for celebrities to chose sides! But among the fence-sitters (like myself), I love Willem Dafoe’s answer!

Tom Hiddleston tweeted about the winners of the welovefine.com contest. His personal pick is lovely in its simplicity. And I loved the results for two reasons: 1. Most of the winners were women. 2. Loki appears in most of the designs, including the biggest winner.

In related news: Hey, the fictional Thor villa looks nice!

BTW, you know there’s a movie called Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, that I will watch because Jeremy Renner is Hansel, right? Well, it seems it will be R-rated. Apparently, the studio was testing two versions of the film (R and PG-13), and the public preferred the R-rated one. Yay, violence!

And then I stumbled upon four clips of the new Resident Evil movie, where you can see Mila Jovovich kicking ass in slow-mo with perfect hair and makeup.

While checking those and wondering who has the time to be perfectly groomed during a zombie apocalypse, a fellow YAM writer sent me this article about a Chinese movie called The Bullet Vanishes (消失的子弹), whose poster gives you Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes flashbacks. I went looking for the trailer, and while it seems similar there’re also enough elements to make it its own movie. I’d watch it.

Anyway, it was time to check my BBC/HBO collaborations, and I found a trailer for the second episode of Parade’s End, which I loved. I also found a teaser for The Girl; yes, the one about Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren.

So Steven Moffat was at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, and got asked about the possibily of the Doctor becoming a woman someday.

It is a part of Time Lord lore that it can happen — a Time Lord could potentially turn into a woman. The more often it’s talked about, the more likely it is to happen someday, I suppose.

Yeah, but I don’t think it’ll happen under his watch.

We also got a new trailer for the first episode of Doctor Who Series 7. Yay!

Finally, this woman writes an Open Letter to British Television that sums up most of my fangirl feelings for Brit series.

Animation in China is leaping huge steps forward in the animated shorts done by students and newly setup studios. I hope it reaches it’s animated movies soon… especially with the start up of Dreamworks Shanghai and the likes.
