Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Teaser Trailer with English Subtitles

After a three year hiatus, Karan Johar returns to the directorial chair with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (lit. trnsl. O Heart, it’s difficult), his sixth feature film. Although he directed his previous feature, Student of the Year, in 2012, he was among the four filmmakers who contributed to Bombay Talkies, the 2013 anthology film made to celebrate the 100th year of Indian cinema. Johar is responsible for some of the most popular contemporary Indian films, including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles. Sharma and Rai are working with Johar’s Dharma productions for the first time. On the other hand, Kapoor’s Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani were produced by Johar. Both Kapoor and Sharma recently acted with the director in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet, in which he played the villain. The supporting cast includes Fawad Khan, Lisa Haydon and Deepti Naval. The film features cameos by Imran Abbas and none other than Shah Rukh Khan, Johar’s longtime friend.

It is not a conventional love story or love triangle. It’s a film that dwells deeply on relationships, heartbreaks and how love completes you, defines you and yet leaves you wanting for more,” Johar has said. “I have never had, in my entire career, a film that has come to me so fast, so organically and so from within.

Reportedly inspired by Yash Raj Films’ 1977 Doosra Aadmi, which featured Kapoor’s parents, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is slated to release on the Diwali weekend on October 28th 2016. It will be competing at the box office against Ajay Devgn’s action thriller Shivaay.
