Camiele’s Best of Sexy Music of 2011

2. Meshell Ndegeocello – Weather

Yes, she gets a second shout-out — that’s how intense her groove is to me.

Genius, lioness, goddess. With her bass guitar and her rugged vocal, everything she produces turns into magic. Weather is just the return that her fans would want without ever seeming complacent. She has a sound uniquely hers, but one that never fails to give rise to something warm in the listener.

This album buried itself in my skin with her husky lullaby and her impeccable production.

1. Raphael Saadiq – Stone Rollin’

There’s sexy and then there’s throw off your panties and scream like you’ve been bitten by Satan sexy.

With the loss of D’Angelo as a musical force, many felt a void in their hearts for Real & Bitchin’ — what most people know as R&B. Truth be told, Saadiq has never left our sides and his fifth solo effort Stone Rollin’ is a testament to, not only his staying power, but his ability to make love sounds that you could never imagine. Tinged with all the trappings of Motown in its heyday and Soul music when it had soul, this album takes you places you just don’t want to leave.

If you find yourself in the company of a lovely someone, try these songs on for size and see where the night leads you.

Cy

As unexpected as my path was to loving all things weird, more unexpected is my ability to get attention for writing about the stuff.

The first half doesn’t do anything for me, except for song 8 that makes me wanna chill out, smoke cigarettes and make out with women.

Second half of songs fits the sexy tone much better IMO. Raphael Saddiq sounds really great. Song 3 works very well too.

@Rodrigo, Well, I suppose with the first half, it’s all a matter of taste. There’s something about the tone of voice with a song, or the way a voice wraps around the music that touches me in way that goes far beyond just “liking” a song, you know?

But, yes. That second half I know was kind of on that “make or break” tip…”make” slow love or “break” the damn bed…HaHa.

      Soo…you didn’t like the DBSK entry :P

      • Rodrigo says:

@Camiele, Or matter of mood too for who listens to it.

Second half, I agree with you. Which song would you break the bed to?

DBSK did nothing for me. Maybe it could have been replaced with something else. I think your mind could work something wicked. :P

        • Camiele says:

@Rodrigo, HaHa. I think you may have gotten caught up in the video…which was ridiculous and didn’t fit the song at all…but anyway :P

Well…breaking the bed would have to go to Marsha…every. single. time. But, Meshell and Saadiq can do some wonderful things to set the mood and keep it moving. That’s why they’ve got the honour of having their entire albums get a shout-out — they’re both invitations for some good stuff ;)

Buika (she really is in La Piel Que Habito), her track makes me sad more than anything LOL I don’t think I’ve thought about sexy music for a while – mainly because I’ve been listening to a lot of music in languages that I don’t understand, and whatever I think it’s sexy turns out to be a heartbreak song or something when I translate haha – like Bibi’s The Wrong Side of the Moon [1].

But other than that, I haven’t thought of “put you in the mood” music with the latest releases… since… probably 2006 or 2007 or something. Andrea Echeverri’s Quedate always get me – the lyrics are pretty cheesy, but Echeverri’s instrumentation and delivery is that sweet sexy thing. Then there’s Freezepop’s Swimming Pool… okay, and the oldie of Andres Cabas’ Tu Boca. LOL

    • Camiele says:

@amy, Yes. That’s where I heard this song first. I always look out for Buika’s music, so when I saw that she was part of the soundtrack I kinda went ape shit! HaHa. Most of her songs are heartbreaking, I’ll admit — or either incredibly ferocious. But it’s that voice that just does it to me. Her 2009 album La Nina en Fuego…TOO amazing.

I keep wanting to check out Ms. Echeverri ever since I read your article about her. She sounds exciting. And I’ve heard of Freezpop but know nothing about them…just that the name is too amazing for words! Thanks for the suggestions :)

      • Rodrigo says:

@Camiele, Echeverri has been great for years since her Aterciopelados days. Check her out.

Also, Amy reminded me of Morenamia from Miguel Bosé for some reason, lol.

        • Camiele says:

          @Rodrigo, Morenamia…that sounds interesting. I feel like I might like that ;-)

        • amy says:

@Rodrigo, I don’t want to say I’m a Miguel Bose fan – but my dad is like the biggest and that’s rubbed off a little bit. I love Morena Mia. I don’t think it’s a mood-setting track but it’s a playful one. xD

Having said that, I’ve always felt his video with his niece is totally creepy haha.
