The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: The best place by the fire

TUESDAY

Here we have the nominations for the Oscars! And La La Land has 14 nominations, that’s tying the record with All About Eve in 1950 and Titanic in 1997. Damn, it didn’t need (or deserved) that many! Also, where is Scorsese’s Silence (besides Cinematography!). And Suicide Squad better NOT win Makeup and Hair… ugh can you imagine anyone calling it Academy Award Winning Movie Suicide Squad? And where was Kimi no Na wa in Animated Feature? But I don’t know which one I would kick out. Also, Moana better win Original Song dammit!

On the other side of the coin, we had the noms for the Razzie Awards, and damn Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice got 8 of those! Only Zoolander No. 2 received more nominations with 9! Other films that got multiple nominations are Dirty Grandpa, Independence Day: Resurgence, Gods of Egypt, and Alice: Through the Looking Glass.

Talking DC movies, Empire Magazine regaled us with another Justice League image… and are the heroes ever going to go out into the light or what? Also, where is Aquaman? And I guess we’ll see Superman someday.

Director Rian Johnson is an evil tease and gave us this teeny tiny sneak peek of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi opening crawl. I repeat, they better not kill Luke Skywalker dammit!

WEDNESDAY

Jacob Tremblay, star of the award-winning drama Room, has been cast in Shane Black’s The Predator reboot, as the son of Boyd Holbrook’s character.

Holbrook will be playing an ex-Marine who figures out the Predators exist. His son is Autistic, but has an incredible ability to learn other languages. This gift allows the son to help his father in tha battle against the aliens.

It seems we are getting another X-Men TV series! Fox has ordered a pilot from Bryan Singer, who will produce the series and direct the pilot. This project will be tied more closely to the X-Men mythos both from comic books and films than Legion.

The project will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

Rogue One books are not stopping with the novelization of the movie and Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel (about the relationship of Galen Erso and Director Krennic). Now we are getting Jyn Erso’s backstory, named Rebel Rising, written by Beth Revis and available on May 2, 2017. The book will focus on the time where hardcore rebel Saw Gerrera raised Jyn Erso from childhood to her teenage years, teaching her how to be strong and rebellious… until they part ways in not so happy circumstances.
