The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Take the good with the bad

FRIDAY

Feeling a bit depressed after learning the terrible news: a crazy bastard oppened fire in a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, deaths and injuries were reported [1]. Consequently, Warner Bros cancelled the Paris Premiere and there has been an increase in police protection in NYC.

Christopher Nolan released a flawless statement regarding this tragedy:

Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of The Dark Knight Rises, I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community. I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime.  The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me. Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families.

Some news helped me get distracted, like Marvel Now! Point One. Although all the reveals have been intriguing, it was the only team picture that really excited me, the probable group comprised of Wiccan, Kid Loki y Miss America Chavez seems all kinds of awesome.

And then, there was this nice article telling us why The Hollow Crown is important to Britan and Britishness. And it almost made me shed a tear. But that’s just the Shakespeare nerd in me.

A related article appeared hours later, where Tom Hiddleston was his usual intense self:

There is something about the adrenaline of shooting a battle where everyone’s blood is pumping. In a way there is no acting required. They have been calling me ‘crazy eyes’, but the intensity needs to be there.

He is just a fellow Shakespeare nerd.

In more British news, the Spice Girls will perform at the Olympics closing ceremony. Wait, what? All five of them? Wow. I think I need to lie down.

Well, that’s it! Life goes on and I’m off to eat some seafood and enjoy Henry V… but before I forget, here’s a treat: a very young Tom Hiddleston from an Eton yearbook.

I’m still a little bit sour grapes about Pixar announcing sequels to Nemo, Monsters INC. and Toy Story 4. Like, MAD. For Toy Story 4, specifically.

  2. you just reminded me of how fannish I got over the Winter Soldier announcement
    I got teary-eyed!
and if Anthony Mackie agrees to play Falcon and SHIELD does play a larger role in this sequel, then he and Jeremy Renner can be Hurt Locker birdbros
