The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Here comes the Sorcerer Supreme

TUESDAY

Welp, The Jungle Book has broken records in India’s Box Office. When was the last time that happened with a Hollywood movie? Not only that, but it’s also a critical hit there, “universally appreciated”! Disney has a lot of faith in that film, and a sequel is already in the works. They are in talks with Jon Favreau and his screenwriting partner Justin Marks to return for The Jungle Book 2. Rudyard Kipling has more stories about Mogwli, what about “Red Dog” from The Second Jungle Book!

We have two new clips from Captain America: Civil War. We have “New Recruit”, and it shows Ant-Man/Scott Lang meeting #TeamCap and fanboying over Cap. Can’t blame him. The other clip is called “Right to Choose”, and it shows the different idiologies between both sides at a point where they have yet to come to blows.

In Captain Obvious news, Thanos has been confirmed to have lots of screen time in Avengers: Infinity War, Part I. Here’s what writer Christopher Markus had to say:

We don’t get an element of surprise. Everyone knows he’s coming, and yet he hasn’t had terribly many scenes that have illuminated very much about him. You can count on a lot of scenes where we illuminate a lot about him very early.

Lucky Americans get to watch the original Star Wars trilogy in theaters this August. Tickets go on sale on “Star Wars Day,” May the Fourth, May 4, 2016 at ReturnOfTheTrilogy.com. The only sucky thing? It will be the 1997 re-release, not the original theatrical versions. #BooDisneyBoo

News from CinemaCon, the annual gathering of cinema operators in Las Vegas! Here we had Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirming that Ben Affleck’s stand-alone Batman movie is definitely happening. And yes, Batfleck will star and direct.

WEDNESDAY

We had the new trailer for Doctor Strange! And also we had a couple of cool posters, and some screencaps!

Besides that, we had Benedict Cumberbatch and director Scott Derrickson talking about the film, the character, the magic, and even Benedict’s baby chewing on The Eye of Agamotto:

My baby just loves giving it a bite. It’s a bit troublesome because you don’t know how many toxic things might be on it. If they made a nice rubber version, it would be the ideal baby dummy. Who knew?

CinemaCon gave us some Spider-Man news. First, Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man reboot has got its official nameSpider-Man: Homecoming. And there’s even a logo! Another related logo is the one for Animated Spider-Man, the animated Spider-Man movie delivered by Sony Pictures, as per the deal made with Marvel Studios.

Since DC took took J. Jonah Jameson (J. K. Simmons), Marvel will take Batman! Yep, Michael Keaton is in early talks to play the villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming! And I kinda expect a homecoming dance in that movie now.
