Cy’s 100 Favorite Albums of 2019

Oh my God, I’m back again! (This, my loves, is what we call foreshadowing.) Another year. Another list of some of the most amazing albums. When I tell you 2019 was the most difficult, most dense, and most brilliant year for music to date, I’m not kidding. From the thousands of albums released last year, I listened to a grand total of 165. You read that right. One hundred sixty-five albums in 365 days.

So you can understand just how painful it was to get this list in proper order. But… here we are! Before we begin, however, I have to at least shout out a few of the 50+ albums that just skirted my top 100!

Honorable Mentions

Reik – Ahora: This is just an incredible piece of pop music. Vocally, it’s really astonishing how each member has his own flavor and style (not to mention clear and beautiful tones, all of them), yet they blend so cohesively to create music that’s fun, on-trend, romantic, and of exceptional quality. This might be my favorite piece of Latin pop since Luis Fonsi’s 8 Deluxe.

Praa – Praa EP: Lovely, easy music. The pre-release singles brought a smile to my face. A promising piece of electro-pop that has something deeper under the bright surface. Wonderfully constructed pop music. It’s got a heart, a pulse, and it’s just incredibly lovely. It’s a shame this is my first time hearing about Praa. She’s truly amazing.

57 – oh, two animals: Ever since I saw 57 perform at Zandari Festa last year they’ve carried a soft spot in my heart. The amount of noise the two of them can make with just a set of drums and a guitar is baffling. oh, two animals is really a gorgeous piece of work. Though it does prescribe to the same punk elements of most bands like them, there are moments of absolute heartbreaking elegance and beauty. Beauty. It’s not an element that automatically lends itself to the genre. But 57 manage to integrate it with precision and great care. It’s a patient album. Unhurried and absolutely lovely.

Now! On to undoubtedly the hardest Top 100 list I’ve had to create thus far!

As unexpected as my path was to loving all things weird, more unexpected is my ability to get attention for writing about the stuff.

I’m glad you’re still reading these things… Haha. I’ve missed Michael so much! I really did let out a squeal when I saw he released something last year! It was really an amazing year for music. Thank you for supporting the list *hugs*
