The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: The Crime of Grindelwald’s casting

THURSDAY

The title of the Fantastic Beasts sequel has been revealed: The Crimes of Grindelwald. And its logo is amazing, with the three Deathly Hallows! Pottermore brought all the exclusives, including a closer look at the characters and everything we know about the film so far. There’s also a new picture (that’s also a GIF… or magical photograph if you will)! So, we have Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) with a new haircut, Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol) and Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) coming back. There are also some new characters like Newt’s older brother, Theseus Scamander (Callum Turner), and his fiancée, Leta Lestrange (Zoë Kravitz), yep, the girl in the photo Newt had… and we are getting family drama. Credence (Ezra Miller) is also back, and is sitting next to Claudia Kim’s character, a ‘Maledictus’, someone who suffers from a ‘blood curse’ that turns them into a beast… like a Werewolf? There’s also Jude Law looking quite dapper as Dumbledore… so when did Dumbles start with his fashion crimes? And finally, ugh, Johnny Depp is back as Grindelwald, because we can’t have nice things. Like Colin Farrell.

In sorta related news, because Ezra Miller, kid gives us an update on the status of that Flashpoint movie that could help reboot the DC film universe (or The DC Hyper-Extended Multiverse, as Ezra calls it) if Justice League underperforms.

The development of the project has been a little Barry Allen-like in its mercurial tendencies. But it looks more promising and more exciting than any of the other stages of development that we’ve been in.

So yeah, Fox is developing a movie about the C-list X-Men Multiple Man, with James Franco as the titular character and Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman) writing the script. In the comics, Multiple Man a.k.a. Jamie Madrox, conveyed his cloning powers at birth, when a second, identical version of him appeared after the doctor slapped the infant to get him to breathe. He had a special suit to control his powers designed by Professor X, and lived quietly until the suit malfunctioned and he began to go crazy. Yeah, that’s nice and all, but where’s my Storm film dammit.

FRIDAY

Rumor is The DC Hyper-Extended Multiverse is already falling apart with conflicting reports about Ben Affleck both returning and not returning to play Batman. Batfleck himself seems to lack enthusiasm in the role, and his douchebag brother Casey said a while ago he ain’t coming back. Now apparently, director Matt Reeves doesn’t even want Batfleck in the solo Batman movie, but Justice League producer Charles Roven says that’s nonsense and he’s totally working with Batfleck. And finally, Jake Gyllenhaal is sniffing around for the role as the caped crusader.

On happier news, habemus the official runtime for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. OMG it’s 150 minutes long! Writer/director Rian Johnson confirmed it himself at a press conference to promote the film in France. I wonder how I will go to work after that midnight screening. It’ll be worth it tho!

Let’s finish the week with the character poster of Thor: Ragnarok‘s MVP: Korg!

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling, Anne Hathaway, Jonny Lee Miller, Martin Scorsese, Rachel McAdams, Zoë Bell, and RuPaul.
