The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Come as you are~

THURSDAY

On this day, Marvel and Netflix proceeded to win the day at SDCC. First, we had a brief teaser for The Defenders where no actual footage was shown, but we all shivered with anticipation after listening the first verse of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” over fancy fonts and a logo, promising the series for 2017, while Stick taunts them. Besides that we got teaser trailers for both Luke Cage (with a release date of September 30) and Iron Fist, the announcement of Daredevil season 3, and Jon Bernthal reminding everyone that The Punisher is a thing that will happen (which was teased a bit at the end of a Marvel/Netflix highlight reel). Great news all around!

Of course, DC and Warner Bros. had to show something too! And they gave us the first footage of the new animated series Justice League Action (coming soon to Cartoon Network!) It seems the show was properly named since there’s a lot of action! Also, the new designs are both fun and badass, so I like. Also, that Wonder Woman line? “More like a side kicks, mother” Awesome!

Also at SDCC, Hey Arnold! characters got an updated look for the new movie Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie, which will be a two-hour telepic that will air in Thanksgiving 2017. The film will  finally answer the question of what the hell happened to Arnold’s parents?

On Disney/Pixar side of animation, the audience got a nice surprise of the first three minutes of Moana! It apparently features Moana’s grandmother telling her the legend of Maui, as well as baby Moana’s first experience with the ocean and a grown up Moana meeting Maui for the first time. Most importantly, directors John Musker and Ron Clements said Moana doesn’t have a love interest and that the film is all about finding herself. Also, Dwayne Johnson gets a song written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Nice!

In other SDCC news, the Wicked movie will include (at least) 4 new songs, according the musical’s composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz. BTW, Universal Pictures announced it will release Wicked on December 20, 2019.

BBC will adapt Les Misérables in new six-part drama, with the help of writer Andrew Davies and his War and Peace team! There not much info yet, regarding either air dates or cast. We’ll just sit tight and wait.

Les Misérables is a huge, iconic title. Most of us are familiar with the musical version, which only offers a fragmentary outline of its story. I am thrilled to have the opportunity of doing real justice to Victor Hugo at last by adapting his masterpiece in a six-hour version for the BBC.

Now for something different, here’s the preview Soundtrack Attack, a Cartoon Network game in the world of Steven Universe, where you can “battle to the beat”, “make your own game” and “play Steven Universe songs”.
