Long-time cinematographer Wally Pfister finally makes his directorial debut with Transcendence, whose first trailer has been unleashed online.
The film’s plot is the following:
Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is an artificial intelligence researcher who strives to create a machine that possesses sentience and collective intelligence. Extremists who oppose technological advancement target him, but their actions drive him toward his goal. Caster also wants to become part of the new technology, and his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and his best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), also researchers, question the wisdom of this drive. Caster’s goal to acquire knowledge becomes one to acquire power, and he seems to be unstoppable.
The cast includes Morgan Freeman, Kate Mara, Cole Hauser, Cillian Murphy, Lukas Haas, Cory Hardrict and Clifton Collins, Jr. The screenplay was written by Jack Paglen, Jess Hall is in charge of the cinematography and Christopher Nolan, who employed Pfister on several of his films, is one of the film’s executive producers.
Transcendence premieres on April 17, 2014.
