Birds Without Names Trailer with English Subtitles

The first trailer for the adaptation of Mahokaru Numata’s (沼田まほかる) Kanojo ga Sono Na o Shiranai Tori-tachi (彼女がその名を知らない鳥たち), which is being translated in English to The Birds She Never Knew [1] or Birds Without Names [1], has been published alongside a first poster.

The story follows the life of a woman with nasty manners named Towako (Yu Aoi), who is in a relationship with a man 15 years older than her named Jinji (Sadao Abe), who works to support her. However, she can’t get over an 8-year-old break up from Kurosaki (Yutaka Takenouchi), whom she remembers as the only joy she ever knew. One day she calls him up, but is visited by the police, who inform her that he vanished five years prior, under mysterious circumstances.

Mahokaru Numata’s novel is a mystery in the style of Kanae Minato, who started the Iyamisu (イヤミス) novel trend back in 2012, which translates to “gross mystery” or “eww mystery,” a mystery sub-genre that explores the dark episodes of human nature.

The Birds She Never Knew is set to open on October 28th in Japan.
