There are a lot of movie all over the world, some left in distribution limbo, some others left unsubtitled, so this is my attempt at making some sort of comprehensive list of what I thought was great… with some surprises, like last year.

Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai

A masterless samurai stricken by poverty requests to commit Seppuku, but before he does the deed, he’s told the story of a young samurai who came for the same reason and ended up slashing his stomach for his misdeed.

Literally translated to Urban Legend Woman, Toshi Densetsu no Onna is a Japanese drama following detective Tsukiko Otonashi, an avid fan of Japanese urban legends. She encounters one murder case after another to then discover what logically really happened.

Stockholm Film Festival 2011

The 22nd edition of the Stockholm Film Festival was all about love. Love for movies, love for art as well as movies about love. Boasting over 170 movies from 44 countries, there was always something to watch for everyone.

Tokyo! (2008)

Generally speaking, the trilogy of stories that is the movie Tokyo! could have been much shorter and would have been more successful as 10 or 15-minute shorts rather than a single movie.
