Happy new year, everyone! Here’s to a 2018 with more writing and more movies. Looking back at my movie-watching last year, I don’t think I watched too many films from the West, so this list seems incredibly unbalanced.

So… who made the list and who didn’t. In what positions were my biases placed?
Instead of reviewing my favorite films of the past decade (2000-09) for The LAMB’s Foreign Chops: Best of the 2000s, I wanted to list them all.
Tsuma and Ayumu Muko are a married couple in a small town in the middle of nowhere. He’s a novelists with a part-time job as a caretaker in the local nursery home while she’s a housewife with a faint heart… that sees the world from a different perspective.
So many fascinating films this year have been written or co-written by women, and it’s about time we give a toast to this talented bunch.
We’re nearly 3 months away from the end of the year, and though 2013 still seems to be a rather lackluster year (again), I had some time to look back at last year…
