Ikimono Gakari are best known for songs such as ‘Sakura‘ and ‘Hanabi’, which have a Japanese folklore flare. 笑ってたいんだ / New World Music is the complete opposite of that. This single contains pure summer tunes. It’s fun, loving and lighthearted. The cover art already hints at the single’s joyous mood.

The instrumentation in Warettetainda is exactly what I meant by ‘summer tunes’. The electric guitar riffs are fast paced. Then there’s acoustic guitars and pop elements that make this song incredibly danceable. If you consider jumping and running around your house dancing, of course. The vocals are very jam worthy. I’ll definitely be singing this one in my car at the top of my lungs.

New World Music is also a fun song. It starts out with a very funky style, teetering into Latin jazz. The vocals are very pop and reminiscent of anime intro songs. Actually, this song reminds me a lot of the Japanese boy group Arashi. Except that Ikimono Gakari don’t annoy me.

Overall 笑ってたいんだ / New World Music is a great summer single. Fun music, lively vocals and positive emotions are exactly what we need in every road-trip to the beach.
