Yoji Yamada’s Tokyo Kazoku Teaser Trailer

Well… as a Japanese teaser can be, anyway. LOL

Anyway, a while back — I’m pretty sure it was back in late 2010 — there was an announcement that Japanese director Yoji Yamada would be making a modern re-adaptation of the famous and highly-lauded Yasujiro Ozu’s 1953 masterpiece Tokyo Story (東京物語).

Yoji Yamada’s version titled Tokyo Family (東京家族, Tokyo Kazoku to avoid confusions) was set to start shooting in April last year, but due to the massive earthquake in March, the date of shooting was postponed, until June this year when it was announced that the film was back on and had already began shooting.

Now, I haven’t watched Tokyo Story, so I have no idea how it’s all going to work out. Tokyo Kazoku stars Hashizume Isao, Yoshiyuki Kazuko, Nishimura Masahiko, Natsukawa Yui, Nakajima Tomoko, Hayashiya Shozo, Satoshi Tsumabuki, and Yu Aoi.

The super brief clip to tease us has Hashizume Isao’s character telling his son, played by Tsumabuki, that his mother is dead (as I understand, since my Japanese isn’t really the best source). The text on screen tells us “This is your story.

Tokyo Kazoku is set to open in January 2013 — similar to Yamada’s last film About her Brother, which also starred my bias Yu Aoi.
