This Is Not A Film Trailer with Portuguese Subtitles

Iranian director Jafar Panahi was put on house arrest because the Iranian government says he was making a movie criticizing the regime. He was given a sentence of six-years in jail and a 20-year ban on making or directing any movies, writing screenplays, giving any form of interviews with Iranian or foreign media, as well as leaving the country.

During the house arrest, bored and very much frustrated with his situation, Pahani decided to step in front of the camera to give us his side of the story.

This is Not a Film was smuggled out of Iran in a USB memory stick, that was baked in to a cookie and then mailed to Cannes.

As of today Jafar Panahi’s six-year sentence has been determined by the Tehran Appeals Court.

  1. Panahi’s “Offside” is one of my favorite films. I hope the situation gets better somehow for Panahi and other Iranian directors in trouble with their government. I’m also looking forward to watching this movie.
