Sparkle Trailer

I didn’t know that Whitney Houston did a movie before passing away. So this trailer shocked me a little. It’s so sad that she’s gone.

Inspired by The Supremes, Sparkle is a remake of the 1976 film of the same name, which centered on three singing teenage sisters from Harlem who form a girl group in the late 1950s. The remake takes place in Detroit, Michigan in the 1960s during the Motown era.

This looks interesting, but I guess I shall wait with any opinion making until I get to see it. I think it’s going to be a little hard to see Whitney in this. The movie contains completely new songs sung by her. It’s now that it dawns upon me that she has passed from this world.

A damn pity.

  1. this was the movie she was filming last year. but, aside from getting to see heron the big screen again, i hope carmen ejogo can really shine in this movie .she’s got a tough role but i think she can pull it off. jordin does nothing for me in this trailer (probably was miscast)

@Candice Frederick, I really didn’t know. I wasn’t that in to what Whitney was doing. After that awful concert she had here in Sthlm, I kind of gave up on her.

So I think this is a sad yet pleasant surprise. I always enjoyed Whitney the actress.

You are not alone in your dislike with Jordin Sparks. Camiele was giving me an earful about it haha. I guess this is Jordin’s Dream Girls, but will she pull a Hudson or a Knwoles? That’s the question no? It’s going to be interesting to find out and I will for sure watch the film. If anything, just for Whitney.

Yeah… am pissed about this one. Apart from Whitney (which makes sense to me), this entire cast is just not kosher. Do yourself a favour and see the original before even touching this one. I was gonna give this remake a chance, since, you know, Whiteny in ANYTHING is just a good idea. She was a really good actress, which isn’t the norm for those who start off singers (*coughbeyoncecough*), but now I just don’t know…

Somebody convince me not to bomb the studio making this film…

@Camiele, Jordin Sparks is just so BLAH. I mean, not like I was big on Hudson either – come on, REALLY. Don’t tell me she was better than either Rinko Kikuchi or Adriana Barraza in Babel. LOL Just… saying.

      • Camiele says:

@amy, I was big on Hudson from a vocal standpoint. She blasted the HELL out of Effie White in Dreamgirls, which was trying to be Beyonce’s big deal, but ended up being a bigger vehicle for Jennifer. Though I wasn’t that big of a fan of the film, I couldn’t deny that Jennifer’s “And I Am Telling You” was like the highlight of everything… HaHa.

So, yeah, sorta don’t know what to do about this adaptation. I tell you one thing, though. I’m sick and tired of all these remakes, espcially of good films. I saw Sparkle when I was 12 or 13. Yeah, when I heard about this one about three or four years ago I was like… “Hmmmm… kinda on the pissed side about this one.” Like, it was a personal attack on my chidhood… HaHA. But I was willing to give it at least a little bit of a chance when I knew Whitney was going to be in it. Now… yeah, still don’t know if I can do it.

@Camiele, the thing is… people are still paying, and as long as they keep paying Hollywood is always going to give you the same re-hash product.

Remakes and re-adaptations should be at half price at the theater, huh? xD

  3. Camiele says:

@amy, You know what… hellz yes! HaHA. That makes so much sense to me. You do half the work to make the film, you get half the money. MAkes sense to me!

I wonder how much this will draw considering the “dead actor” factor playing in this film’s favor.

I didn’t knew Sparkle (original and remake) existed until the trailer was released. True story.
