Painted Skin: The Resurrection International Trailer with English Subtitles

Directed by Wu Er Shan (乌尔善), who directed The Butcher, the Chef and the Swordsman (刀见笑) in 2010, Painted Skin: The Resurrection (画皮II) is the sequel to Gordon Chan’s 2008 film, Painted Skin, which garnered acting nominations for Vicky Zhao Wei as well as for its special effects and cinematography.

Most of the original leads are back, including Zhou Xun, Chen Kun and Zhao Wei.

Xiao Wei (Zhou) is a fox spirit who feasts on human hearts in order to maintain her lovely, youthful appearance. According to demon lore, it takes hundreds of years to attain human form. Even then, lacking a human heart, a demon cannot experience the true pains and passions of existence. However, there is a legend that if a pure human heart is freely offered to a demon, it can become a mortal and experience true life.

With a budget of a little over $20M USD, Painted Skin 2 is set to open in China on June 28, 2012.
