Ketan Mehta’s Manjhi – The Mountain Man Trailer

We’re very big fans of Nawazuddin Siddiqui- well, at least Diandra, Arsaib and I are. I don’t know about Jenna. So that’s 3 out of 4 who watch Indian films. We’re always eyes opened wide with his solo projects, because we’re not always big on his big-star vehicles *cough* Badlapur *cough* Kick.

Writer/Director Ketan Mehta can be hit or miss– people can probably enjoy his 2005 bio-drama-masala The Rising: Ballad of Mangal Pandey [Trailer], but they will likely fall asleep in his 2008-yet-2014-released biographical film on painter Raja Ravi Verma, Rang Rasiya [Trailer]. Here he is with another biopic on an extraordinary common man- Dashrath Manjhi, colloquially known as The Mountain Man for having taken down a WHOLE mountain on his own with just hammer and chisel.

FML, I had to post this trailer just because of that.

The reason for why he took down a whole mountain, which took him 22 years of work by the way, is a spoiler of the film… but if you do end up reading on him, you’ll immediately know.

The Manjhi – The Mountain Man cast is rounded up by Radhika Apte, Pankaj Tripathi, and Gaurav Dwivedi.

You can follow updates of the film on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for this one. I’ve got Badlapur on hold at the library anyway…

wasn’t a big fan of Badlapur, but his performance is pretty good. Felt a little bit like a re-hash version of his Wasseypur role, though, not as layered. Bollywood likes to typecast him as a baddie now xD so it’s good to see him in positive-looking roles.
