Keiichi Hara’s Miss Hokusai Trailer

Animation director Keiichi Hara’s latest foray into film is an adaptation of manga artist and Edo period customs researcher Hinako Sugiura’s manga Sarusuberi (百日紅, aka. Miss Hokusai) following the life of 23-year-old O-Ei — voiced by Anne Watanabe, who had her big break with NHK’s Asadora Gochisosan (ごちそうさん) — who happens to be the talented (and equally stubborn) daughter of famed artist Katsushika Hokusai, most known for The Great Wave off Kanagawa (神奈川沖浪裏) [1] woodblock print as well as the pornographic woodblkock print The Adonis Plant [1].

Miss Hokusai will be released in Japan in May 9th, and will feature a song by singer-songwriter Shiina Ringo.
