Christophe Gans’ La Belle & la Bête Trailer

The French-speaking world has run past some of the most recent English re-adaptations of fairy tales — first, they did La Belle Endormie circa 2010 or 2011 beating out Julia Leigh’s Sleeping Beauty by a hair; both playing a whole different game to Disney’s upcoming Maleficent [1].

Snow White [1][2] and Hansel & Gretel [1][2] aside; the next on the line of these re-adaptations is the “tale as old as time” of Beauty and the Beast, most popularized by Disney’s animated musical adaptation, as well as Jean Cocteau’s 1946 version.

Besides the rumored-then-confirmed-but-not-in-production re-adaptation by Guillermo del Toro — and possibly linked to Emma Watson — the most recent updated look of La Belle & la Bête comes at the hands of Christophe Gans starring Lea Seydoux and Vincent Cassel in the title roles surrounded by Gans’ visuals inside a heavy Disney-influenced world, but that promises to be a closer adaptation of the tale.

The cast is rounded up by André Dussollier, Eduardo Noriega, Myriam Charleins, Audrey Lamy, Sara Giraudeau, Jonathan Demurger, Nicolas Gob, Louka Meliava and Yvonne Catterfeld. These French mega-productions seem rarer by the years.

La Belle & la Bête is set for a February 12th 2014 release in France.
