Bala’s Thaarai Thappattai Trailer

Tamil director Bala is back sitting in the director’s chair, nearly three years after the release of his critically-acclaimed film Paradesi (பரதேசி), about the carefree village young man who ends up working at a tea plantation during the early days of the British Raj. Think about it as 12 Years a Slave, except with an extra depressing ending [1].

Thaarai Thappatai (தாரை தப்பட்டை) stars M. Sasikumar, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Satish Kaushik, and Pragathi Guruprasad. Sorry, no synopsis… though you get the gist of it.

The soundtrack of the film was in charge of famed South Indian composer Ilaiyaraaja, who’s celebrating his 1000th film. THAT’S RIGHT. No extra zero there.

Thaarai Thappattai opens January 14th… so Tamil Nadu gets a new Bala film, and I get Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale in theaters. xD
