Annie (2014) Trailer

The Annie musical gets its third film adaptation with Quvenzhané Wallis as the title character.

Like the classic 1977 musical, Annie centers on 11-year-old little orphan Annie (Wallis), who has a chance encounter with wealthy businessman Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx), an update on the Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks character. Turns out Benjamin, who’s running for mayor, needs a feel-good story to boost his stock; that’s where Annie comes in. Meanwhile, Cameron Diaz takes on the mean-spirited orphanage owner Miss Hannigan.

The adult cast includes Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje while Amanda Troya, Nicolette Pierini, Eden Duncan-Smith and Zoe Colletti star as the orphans.

Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits) will direct the film whose producers include Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Jay-Z, who is also involved in the film’s soundtrack. Emma Thompson serves as one of the three screenwriters, the other two being Gluck and Aline Brosh McKenna.

Annie premieres on December 19, 2014.
