Adele – Skyfall (Lyrics Video + Trailer)

Ever since Skyfall aired its first teaser trailer, I’ve been pretty damn excited  to see this film badly. Skyfall, along with ArgoThe Master and Django Unchained, are among my Top 5 most anticipated films of 2012 (I’ve already seen The Dark Knight Rises) that I want to see on the big screen.

And now, the 23rd James Bond film gets another trailer… and this time, Adele is involved in the film’s theme song (and marketing) of the same name.

The new trailer is set to already-seen footage of James Bond’s (Daniel Craig) metaphorical return from the grave – after plunging off a moving train to what should’ve been a watery death – and subsequent battle with a guileful villain named Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem).

You can check out the lyrics video of Adele’s Skyfall below.

I do love the atmosphere of the song because it reminds me of past Bond films. As far as the video goes, the beginning with the clouds playing along to the title’s song made me wish that the video showed Bond falling from the skies just like the falling man from Mad Men‘s intro (FYI, the Season 5 finale was Bond friendly). However, I can’t help but feel a bit mixed with the lyrics, in particular with the chrous.

While I could see Skyfall being sung from Bond’s POV, I could also see it as just another Adele love song instead of a Bond theme song. Maybe Skyfall could have used Muse’s Supremacy [Xiami] from The 2nd Law as its main theme song instead — it also includes nods to previous Bond films. But unlike Adele’s Skyfall, Supremacy sounds daring, experimental, and best of all, it doesn’t feel like a love song.

Skyfall will have its world premiere in the UK on October 23, 2012. Three days later, the film premieres across Europe. The USA’s release date is set for November 8 in IMAX while the regular theaters will screen it one day later.

November (because that’s when I expect the film to premiere in Peru) can’t get here soon enough.
