47 Ronin Trailer

Well, the movie… at least looks somewhat visually competent.

America wants to tell the story of the revenge of the 47 Ronin that took place in the 18th century. It’s all killing made pretty in the name of loyalty and sacrifice, and this American version — that has fantastical creatures and literally a ‘dragon lady’ — stars Keanu Reeves, who is pointed out in the trailer as a half-breed but I want to use Japanese lingo and use the word “halfie” LOL

47 Ronin also stars Rinko Kikuchi, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, and making her Hollywood debut: Kou Shibasaki… and Jin Akanishi, though I don’t think I spotted him in this trailer. Then again, I don’t give a flying fig for him. LOL

Thoughts? All the Japanese cast is going to be speaking in English then? Everyone crapped on The Last Samurai because it was “a white man saving the day,” but at least they were mostly speaking in Japanese. Now it seems it’s gonna be worse. At least Rinko Kikuchi seems to be having a little bit of fun, but her voice sounds dubbed or altered completely.

I’m sad that Kou Shibasaki is being made to play what looks like a damsel in distress type of role, while Rinko Kikuchi is a literal dragon lady.
