The White Stripes – City Lights

Director Michel Gondry holds a very special relationship with The White Stripes, having previously directed four music videos (Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground [MV], The Hardest Button to Button [MV], The Denial Twist [MV]), including the quite iconic Fell in Love with a Girl [MV], which at the time won the MTV VMA for Breakthrough Video.

This year, Gondry made his own ‘fan-made‘ video when he shot a clip in a steaming bathroom for City Lights, which he shared with the band, making it their fifth collaboration. The song was written for The White Stripes’ Get Behind Me Satan in 2005, but hadn’t been revisited until the vinyl reissue in 2015, and now features in the new compilation album titled Jack White Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016.

The style, of course, reminded us of the practical “effects” version of Evelyn Evelyn’s Have You Seen my Sister Evelyn [MV].

You can buy the 2-disc compilation on iTunes.
