Sigur Ros – Fjögur Píanó (NSFW)

As part of the series of music videos for their latest album Valtari, Sigur Rós releases a music video for Fjögur píanó.

The video was directed by Alma Har’el, an Israeli filmmaker who previously worked with Beirut and did commercials for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. She also won Best Documentary at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival for her documentary film Bombay Beach.

Fjögur Píanó stars Shia LaBeouf and Denna Thomsen as a couple going through addiction, which is illustrated as a repetitive cycle. Sex, lollipops, dead butterflies and more are involved.

Alma Har’el said the following about the video.

“[The video] is about addiction to drugs, or sex, or anything – and how you get stuck in a cycle. For me, it’s about not knowing how to get out of something without causing pain to somebody else. For other people, it might be about candy and fish. I’m down with that.”

Fjögur píanó is the third video from the Valtari Mystery Experiment, which involves giving $10,000 to 12 filmmakers and shooting a video inspired by the music. The second music video was directed by Inga Birgisdóttir for Varúð [MV].

Hmmm… I think using LaBeouf is a double edge sword here. In any case, kudos to him for doing it… I didn’t think the video connected much with the music at first, but halfway through it when it gets all intense, the mood of it all was very powerful.

It reminded me of that So You Think You Can Dance number about addiction. I mean, the music here is so much better (because I really dislike Sara Bareilles LOL), but the relation to drugs in the number and at the beginning of the video made me connect them both.

@amy, The speed on that SYTYCD clip scares me, lol.

I actually liked this video, especially during the second half. At first, I wondered how the hell Shia got to work on this, but I read that he’s a fan of the director and befriended her. Makes me wonder if other actors, bigger or lower than Shia, might show up in the later videos for the SR project. Maybe John Cameron Mitchell could use someone he already worked with on his films.

@Rodrigo, I also thought the second part of the music video is what makes the video memorable, otherwise it’s just weird stuff going on with the LSD lollipops and dead butterflies. xD and those lollipops glowed O_O xD

But I still think using LaBeouf is good and bad. Sure, the video is getting posted on sites that otherwise wouldn’t have posted Sigur Ros music videos, but it’s also bringing on a lot of people who are in to watch LaBeouf dance naked to Sigur Ros. LOL So there’s a lot of people voting negatively…

I think that Sigur Ros is an amazing artist and the video is beautifully done. There’s more information on the video here as well: http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/2012/06/shia-labeouf-bares-all-literally-new-music-video-video
