Red Hot Chili Peppers – Dark Necessities

When Red Hot Chili Peppers released the audio for Dark Necessities last month, frontman Anthony Kiedis suffered from an intestinal flu. He’s in better health now, and the band has released on Facebook the music video for the first single from their eleventh studio album The Getaway, the follow-up to the band’s 2011 album I’m With You.

The music video was directed by Olivia Wilde, who has made her directorial debut earlier this year with the music video for Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros’ No Love Like Yours. [MV] Chris Blauvelt (Meek’s Cutoff, The Bling Ring) is in charge of the cinematography.

While the band is playing the song behind floral wallpaper — including Flea playing the bass while sitting in a kitchen sink — the camera focuses on four female long boarders (Carmen Shafer, Amanda Caloia, Amanda Powell, and Noelle Mulligan) skating around a grocery store, abandoned streets, and an empty reservoir.

The Getaway has been released on stores today, and it includes collaborations from Danger Mouse (album producer, replacing longtime collaborator Rick Rubin) and Elton John playing the piano on the song Sick Love.
