Pharrell Williams – Happy

2013 has been a very successful year for Pharrell Williams. The man’s not only involved with the two biggest hits of the year — Blurred Lines [MV] and Get Lucky [MV] — but he also produced songs and albums for the likes of Jay-Z, Tyler The Creator, Miley Cyrus and the original soundtrack for Despicable Me 2.

Speaking of that film, I remember he launched Happy joined by a Minion-themed lyrics video [MV] just before the film premiered. Anyways, there’s an official music video for the song and yes, even a Minion cameos in it.

The real catch of Pharrell’s video is that it is the first-ever 24-hour music video. You can check that very lengthy video at 24hoursofhappy.com, but there’s also a 4-minute version of the video.

The video features lots of people dancing to the song, but we also have cameos from the likes of Jamie Foxx, Kelly Osbourne, Jimmy Kimmel, Magic Johnson, Steve Carell, the Odd Future folks, Miranda Cosgrove, Ana Ortiz and more. If you can spot all the cameos, please let me know.

While we’re at it, I wonder if Happy might get Oscars/Globes nominations for Best Original Song. Despicable Me 2 stands a chance at getting nominated for Best Animated Film because it’s been a fun film to watch and it’s a big box office draw. I also think it’s funnier and an improvement over the first film. Anyways, Pharrell’s song could be the film’s only second shot at getting something else. And November is just the right time to remind people about this song released months ago.
