Muse – Madness

When Muse released Survival [MV], the official song for the London 2012 Olympics, back in July, I didn’t hate the song because of its sound. However, the lyrics were unsettling — it suited The Hunger Games much better — considering the song’s association with the sports event.

And now, the band releases a music video for Madness, the second single from their sixth studio album The 2nd Law, out on October 1, 2012.

Madness is directed by Anthony Mandler, who previously directed Muse’s clip for Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever) [MV]. The video is a futuristic, apocalyptic affair, featuring great looking criminals pursued by a faceless police force. Muse performs in a dark room, illuminated by flickering lights while the action takes place around them. The video closes with a showdown on a train platform while the couple at the center of the action make out in the middle of the riots.

With two songs from The 2nd Law already released, is it too early to assume that the entire album will be Queen-inspired? Survival had Muse aiming for the grandiose Queen-style sound while Madness pretty much resembles I Want To Break Free [MV]. I do feel 50/50 about Madness; it’s a much better song than Survival and it might grow on me later on, but I end up feeling that Muse shouldn’t be clinging on to the Queen style for an entire album.

By the way, you can check out the lyrics video for Madness in case you don’t like the Mandler-directed video.

Isn’t Bellamy with Kate Hudson? xD Isn’t Kate Hudson blamed for the suckiness of The Black Crowes? Both her and Drew Barrymore get their rock stars in their primes and somehow suck something out of them… at least, that’s the myth hahaha.

This is just… a tiny bit sad. Their coolest simplest video was Resistance. Just simple rock concert video.
