Joanna Wang – You and Me

Taiwanese, US-based singer-songwriter Joanna Wang has released her latest single — finally under her name and not the New Tokyo Terror, from which she has been releasing quirky covers — titled You and Me, from her upcoming album Galaxy Crisis: The Strangest Midnight Broadcast, which will be released on March 16th.

Following the brilliance that her 2011 album The Adventures of Bernie the Schoolboy was, Galaxy Crisis promises a musical, spunky album filled with an old school video game vibe, if we’re to be guided by its first single and its music video.

But I’d better let her explain:

A colorful and wide-eyed adventure sprung straight from the ever-mind-bending midnight programming! Galaxy Crisis: The Strangest Midnight Broadcast is a bright, spunky and irreverent album that evokes all the colors and sounds and attitude of cartoons and video games from growing up in the 90’s.

At some ungodly and strange hour…aliens are sending rescue signals from outer space and it intercepts regular old TV broadcast, why else did you think midnight programming was so unsettling and weird? These new tunes feature 70’s analog synthesizer music, old school TV orchestras, demented country-surf, Jobim-esque boss nova mixed with some delightful chiptunes, and Julie Andrews gone horribly mean.

You can pre-order Galaxy Crisis on iTunes.

Can’t wait.
