GaIn – Bloom
A very grown-up music video, indeed. I find it mind-blowing that this is the same person who had to “research” how to be sexy for the making of Abracadabra [MV] — in both its stage and regular video version. And the title of the song fits perfectly — GaIn has bloomed.
The music video for her latest single Bloom (피어나), from her upcoming second album Let’s Talk About S, was directed by Hwang Soo Ah (YES!) and shows GaIn through the blurry and tinted view of a projector, just like old school 8mm cameras. Then, it’s revealed that we’re at a stylish cabin and GaIn is shown draped in white bed sheets, surrounded by pastel colors. The video isn’t soooooo R-rated, but it does include some stylish scenes of GaIn enjoying the affections of her significant other — enjoying A LOT with rapture.

This is just a stretch and my dirty mind playing tricks on my logic, but could the “S” in that album title refer to “sex“? Or could I just be going all Salt-N-Pepa on all of you?
The song was written by other longtime collaborators Kim Eana for the lyrics and Lee Min Soo composing, about a girl becoming a woman through love. See, it’s a recurring theme.
And according to LOEN Music (Thank you, LOEN!), Let’s Talk About S was produced by Young-chul Cho, who also produced GaIn’s first album Step 2/4, as well as Brown Eyed Girls’ Abracadabra and Sixth Sense, and IU’s Good Day [MV] and YOU & I [MV], which was also directed by Hwang Soo Ah — you can totally see the similarities between both songs and video color palette.

It’s like a Kpop video without being a Kpop video. I’m not sure if it’s enough to put itself as one candidate for our Top list, though.

There’s about 20 videos for consideration at the moment, and it’s forming okay. There’s no clear #1 yet, though. There’s some interesting themes that get repeated in some music videos… it’s going to be an interesting post DON’T WORRY.

Firstly, the song is cute as hell. But then… you’ve got her spirit-fingered dancers… HaHa!
And can we talk about GaIn getting all “I really wanna touch myself” in the kitchen?! HaHaHaHa! Yeah… so, LOVE GaIn. LOVE this video!
@Camiele, hahaha, yes she did. It’s classy, though, totally sex classy. Like… they put in the work and it looks polish and layered. Compared that to Christina Aguilera’s Your Body- I was sooooo disappointed in it. I know both songs are complete opposites, but the sex in her video, though even less up frontal and almost comical about it than this, felt very low-class.
@amy, You know, I haven’t even peeped Xtina’s newest vid or song. I think I may have heard it on the radio, but I wasn’t sure. Some parts had moments of Christina, and others it just sounded like everything else, so I wasn’t quite sure.
It seems that in terms of sexuality SK and maybe Japanese idols tend to (obviously not always) present it a bit classier than their US counterparts. From my limited view, I think Chinese ladies show a much more mature and varied ideal of female sensuality than any of them… but, like I said, limited… HaHa.
But, that’s neither here nor there. I pretty much LOVE GaIn. When I first saw the blonde hair, I wasn’t sure… but then I was just like, “GaIn I LOVE YOU!!!”
@Camiele, well… I don’t know about Chinese – as in Mainland – since videos and songs are supposed to (technically) pass through govt. approval before being recorded or shot. Though, for the last year or so I’ve seen a few questionable bitch and hoes dance hip pop songs and mvs haha. The last that comes to mind is MIC’s Hangover MV. Like, I kinda dug the song but the MV has totally ruined it for me haha.
I generally tend to think that Chinese/Taiwanese MVs that try to be sexy on purpose are rather awkward. Like… they want to be sexy, and I laugh. I prefer when they don’t try to be sexual, but it just happens to shine through. Like… a singer fully clothed that just happens to ooze sexy without showing an inch of skin.
Japan is a case on its own. If you look at pop, I think it’s wrong to think of it as sexy considering how many young people are idols (like… that boy band SexyZone (TROLOL) who are like 11 or something) and the idols who are older still maintain that wholesome idea of cute, so I can’t think of them as sexy. In other types of music, it goes beyond the visual, seeing as I go “OMG, he/she sounds so goooood, THAT’S SO SEXY” xD
My assimilation process with Kpop is different… I go “OMG, what is this song is so silly. It’s so catchy! I can’t even… OMG, they’re so pretty and look at that dance.” Haha.
Brown Eyed Girls (and thus, GaIn) were more like a mix of my Japanese music assimilation combined with the Korean one. Btw, GaIn’s mini is off the hook. I just ordered online haha.
@amy, HaHA. Well, like I said… limited perception. I’m actually going by Sa Dingding. I thought Ha Ha Lili was MAD sexy and anything Faye Wong does just… well… yeah…
That’s mainly what I was basing my theory off of… which I now realize was totally not right… HaHa. You’re totally right, btw. The “trying to be sexy” thing just doesn’t work for me. Like, I don’t know WHO decided “bitches and hos” were sexy… but damn, that shit’s just NOT cool.
I’ll have to take a listen to GaIn’s mini. I just LURVE her!
@Camiele, hahaha, but Sa Dingding and Faye aren’t really trying to be sexy… they just do their thing, each with their folklore or spiritual thing, and it’s just magnetic.
@amy, This is true. I think that’s what makes them so sexy, though. The fact that they’re NOT trying to be sexy… they’re just being themselves and that alone makes them sexy, makes you gravitate towards them.
