Glee and Other Stuff: Inside the Wandering Mind of Ryan Murphy
Amy: But talking about hate… that’s different with Finn. It’s not the actor that bothers me (as much), it’s just the character as a whole.
Rodrigo: How the fuck can you be an unlikeable boring asshole?
Amy: Exactly! And I really feel sad for the people that see Finn as a good character.
Rodrigo: Finn still remains popular because the writing for Glee never made him look like an antagonist at all.
Amy: He’s an idiot… he’s judgemental, and he sucks the life out of evertyhing when he’s around.
Rodrigo: And yet no one talks sense into him or beats the shit out of him. The writing for Finn also destroys other characters. The worst example was with Santana’s coming out — Kurt and Blaine sing Pink’s Fuckin’ Perfect [MV] to make Santana feel better. Santana chews them off, but when Finn sings Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Santana hugs him. That was the moment when Glee fucking enraged me in a way the show never did.
Amy: I actually… I think… the FaBerry fandom converted me a little sometime in season two or something. LOL
Amy: Sighs, to be honest… the beginning of season 3 was pretty ridiculous. LOL So they were starting somewhere. xD
Rodrigo: I didn’t mind the Season 3 start. But when Episode 4 kicks in, sharks are circling.
Amy: That’s what happens when the runner of the show goes off to run some other show! I’m telling you, watching Asian drama formats would be good for your liver! LOL No vile for extended period of times. I think cable television, like HBO or AMC, might be more strict with their contracts. They probably don’t allow this type of show-hopping to avoid problems like this.
Rodrigo: I watch more than just 1 show. I tried watching Dream High, but I got lazy with it. :S
Amy: Dream High is too long….. even for me. Sadly our affiliates at VIKI don’t carry any Japanese dramas, just pure anime, so I can’t recommend you any Jdrama to watch at the moment.
Rodrigo: Lol. AMC highly values Mad Men and Breaking Bad for awards, but also has The Walking Dead as the ratings-grab. Horror shows draw, but that’s another topic. HBO can let stuff run depending on the producer and/or not going way too expensive. The 2 seasons of Rome cost total like $100 milllion to produce. Way too expensive, even for HBO.
Amy: That’s a whole load of bucks if you ask me. You can make 100 pretty good movies with that budget outside the US.
Rodrigo: Game of Thrones cost even more, but they have the books and audience to guarantee success.
Amy: How much does it cost to make an ep of Glee? I heard Mad Men runs about 1 or 2 million per ep?
Rodrigo: Mad Men goes like $2.88M since Season 4, if I’m not mistaken.
Amy: I love that episodes of Friends could run over $5M just in actor salaries. LOL.
Rodrigo: Glee costs usually like $3M per episode. The Superbowl episode (the one that started the slow downfall IMO) cost like $3-5M while the New York episode (Season 2 finale) was like $6M.
Amy: Glee costs probably go higher because of music costs…
Rodrigo: The Season 2 finale felt like a waste of its budget, lol.
