Swedish Music of 2011 – Highlights
Maskinen – Krossa Alla Fönster
This song by hip-hop duo Maskinen (Afasi & Frej) is easy to sing along to and was well-played around the radio stations here in Sweden. What I love the most about this song is the lyrics. They are throwing shade at the Swedish king (he was involved in several scandals this year) as well as dissing douches. I love it.
Combo De La Musica – Why
OK, this is me cheating seeing as Combo De La Musica hasn’t officially released a song this year (they are about to release their EP next year), but I don’t have the patience to wait until the end of next year (also seeing as we are not sure if we will still be alive according to the Mayan calendar). Because CDLM has been active this year, I am making a huge faux-pas with this entry. Anyway, I have written before how much I fell in love with this band and how great they are . I hope that 2012 is going to be the year they really break out. I am not kidding when I say that Combo De La Musica is one of the best Swedish bands right now. I am never wrong when it comes to good music.
Timbuktu – Resten Av Ditt Liv
I love Timbuktu. He makes this kind of hip-hop that is fluffy and cute. Makes me happy. Part of it is because he has this really thick Southern accent. It’s so adorable.
This is by far one of the best breakup songs of this year. Mostly thanks to the last verse in where Timbuktu says, and I quote:
I hope you,
Never again can’t remember a pin code, like never, even when you get a new one.
And may your clock always go twenty minutes slow so that you’ll always be too late
And may flesh-eating ants eat up your eyelids so you are always tired,
And even when you are refreshed you will see very very very tired ..
And may your hard drives forever always crash!
So that is it for me and my Swedish highlights of 2011. Again, this was a really great year for Swedish music. I am giddy about 2012 and what it has to offer.
